In my mother’s basement in Philadelphia lies a old wooden drawer that once belonged to a dresser that no longer exists. In the drawer, are a collection of old 45 records. I’m not entirely sure, but I believe that in the drawer I have a copy of the song Magic by the group Pilot.

I actually had two copies of the song. The original 45 cracked, so I got another one. I definately don’t think that much of the song, but I was into magic in the late 70′s, so it may have been a sort of theme song.

Anyway, whenever I think about my collection of old 45′s, I think about the cellar gang. This was a group of friends that hung out in the Neal’s basement. This song reminds me particularly of one member of the gang, Angie.

I’m not sure why I associate this song with Angie. She and I hung out a lot together for a while, and I think we may have both liked magic. I don’t really remember. But whenever I hear the song, I think of her and the cellar gang and the old cracked 45 that we still tried to play on the record player.
