Today’s challenge is to name a song to which I know all the words. I probably know the words to a lot of songs, but the one that came to mind was I’ve Got a Lovely Bunch of Coconuts.

There is a very good reason for my knowing all of the words to this song. Back in 1975, when the movie Monty Python and the Holy Grail first came out, my friend Eric Stephens and I went to the movie theater right after school to see the first showing of the movie. We arrived about 40 minutes early, so we sat in the auditorium. We were the only ones there, if I remember correctly; Monty Python wasn’t that popular yet.

They didn’t have slides before movies back then, but they did pipe in music. The song “I’ve Got a Lovely Bunch of Coconuts” was playing. And it kept playing, over and over and – dare I say it? – over again. It didn’t stop until the movie previews started.

For about 35 minutes, Eric and I heard the song many times. I had heard the song before that time, but I didn’t know all the lyrics. After that experience, I believe I can never forget the words.
