Day 22 – A Song That I Listen to When I’m Sad
I sure hope I don’t have to explain the whole songs / favorites / feelings association thing again. If you don’t know the story by now, you haven’t read my blogs. Shame on you!
I figure if I’m sad, I would listen to music to cheer me up, right? So I’m choosing “Here Comes the Sun” by The Beatles. It’s about getting over a long winter as the sun begins to shine, and “It’s all right.” The song is cheerful and just the thing to turn that frown upside down. Did I really just type that?
Now if you want to stay sad for a while, the blues are always good. Isn’t that what the blues are for – allowing you to enjoy sadness and melancholy? This is sometimes nice. Being human, we should allow ourselves the chance to enjoy the full range of emotions.
I’m not an expert in the blues, but I can give a couple of examples of songs that do this for me. “Sad Songs” by Elton John and “Song Sung Blue” by Neil Diamond are both about this “blues effect.” Ah, delicious melancholy.
Elton John also wrote “I Guess That’s Why They Call It the Blues” but I don’t like the song as much as “Sad Songs.”
Well, that’s the 30 Days of Music post for today. I hope I didn’t bring anyone down. If so, just listen to a few sad songs.
