Because of the 30 Days of Music Challenge, I’ve been blogging every day. It has made me wonder why I have a blog.

Very few people come to this website. It’s not like I have a large audience of people just waiting for me to say something. Who really cares about me and what I put here anyway?

I’m not a very outgoing person. I don’t have much to say to the world, except for some strong opinions on a few topics. I’ve hesitated really going off on rants about my opinions though, because I believe it just looks bad, and it could offend some people.

I’m not making any money from the site, although that is possible if traffic ever picked up. I try to sprinkle my posts with links to music and other products that might be of interest.

So why do I do this? I can think of a few reasons:

Blogging will improve my writing skills.

When I do finally meet “The One,” she’ll have a way to get to know me better.

It helps me to know myself better.

I’ve had the domain name BobMoran.com for years; I have to do something with it.

I have this need to explain myself.

Now that I’ve thought about it, I may post more about these reasons later. I still wonder why though. lol

I’m still trying to decide if these reasons are valid and worth keeping a public blog. I guess I’ll just ponder this for a while. In the meantime, if you have an opinion about this, or you have a blog and want to share your reasons for writing it, please post a comment.

A 30 day challenge! Can Bob come up with songs to match the descriptions given? Can he do it in 30 days? Stay tuned. Get it? - tuned, like tuned in - music? Oh, nevermind.

I found out about this via a tweet on Twitter (say that three times fast). One of my local theatre contacts is doing it on his blog, so I thought I’d give it a try. If nothing else, it adds some much needed content to my blog.

Thanks for the idea, Mike.

The idea is to come up with a song that matches the description for each day. This should be a real challenge for me.

The List

Day 01 – your favorite song
Day 02 – your least favorite song
Day 03 – a song that makes you happy
Day 04 – a song that makes you sad
Day 05 – a song that reminds you of someone
Day 06 – a song that reminds of you of somewhere
Day 07 – a song that reminds you of a certain event
Day 08 – a song that you know all the words to
Day 09 – a song that you can dance to
Day 10 – a song that makes you fall asleep
Day 11 – a song from your favorite band
Day 12 – a song from a band you hate
Day 13 – a song that is a guilty pleasure
Day 14 – a song that no one would expect you to love
Day 15 – a song that describes you
Day 16 – a song that you used to love but now hate
Day 17 – a song that you hear often on the radio
Day 18 – a song that you wish you heard on the radio
Day 19 – a song from your favorite album
Day 20 – a song that you listen to when you’re angry
Day 21 – a song that you listen to when you’re happy
Day 22 – a song that you listen to when you’re sad
Day 23 – a song that you want to play at your wedding
Day 24 – a song that you want to play at your funeral
Day 25 – a song that makes you laugh
Day 26 – a song that you can play on an instrument
Day 27 – a song that you wish you could play
Day 28 – a song that makes you feel guilty
Day 29 – a song from your childhood
Day 30 – your favorite song at this time last year

I really don’t have favorites, nor do I usually associate songs with a particular mood, but I’ll do my best to match the descriptions given.

I’ll start tomorrow, just to keep you in suspense.

I have show business in my blood, but life seems to have distracted me from the thing I want to do most. It's time to get back on track and follow my bliss.

The new year is quickly approaching, and it’s time to look over what I’ve done and set new goals.

I haven’t been following my life-long dreams. Trying to earn a living seems to have pushed me away from those things. It’s time I’ve steered myself back to those things which I want to accomplish.

Generally, I want to be in show business – not as a star or performer (although I will do some work on stage), but as a producer of variety shows and musicals. This has been something that has been a part of me since my childhood. I think it’s time I took it seriously and started really working on it.

I want this blog to reflect my progress as I work toward my goals. I also want it to motivate and help others who may be interested in the same things I am. So, I’ll be working on adding more posts about show business, music, singing, dancing, backstage work, and all the other factors that to into putting on a show.

I have a degree in Theater. I’ve worked in theater, both backstage and onstage. I’ve directed both shows and videos as a teacher, and have taken part in all sorts of special events. I’ve been in a band and several musicals. While I don’t consider myself an expert in show business or a musician, I have a lifetime of experience from which to build.

It’s time to move on and become an expert, so that I can do the thing that I feel I was meant to do in this life. Hopefully, you’ll be able to follow my progress by seeing more entertainment related posts here on my website. I guess now that I’ve put this out there publicly, I have to do it, right?

I think I’m going to start using the polls on Facebook as ideas for topics here on my blog. I often answer the poll questions but feel that many people may think my opinions are wrong or extreme. They may hide me from their updates and thus, my ideas are not heard. I really can’t blame them, I do the same sometimes.

I do get excited (read “pissed-off”) about some of the topics and the replies that some post to them. Here on my blog, I can rant and rave all I like, although with the thought that it takes to write a good blog, I hope the posts will be more calm and reasonable.

I do have a need to be heard, to express my opinions and hope that some people see things as I do. This blog is a better venue for that. I have wanted to express more of my ideas here, and using the polls as topic starters should increase my enthusiasm for posting here.

So, be prepared for an onslaught of semi-liberal, pacifistic, idealistic, yet oh, so reasonable wisdom from the mind of a hermit.

I’ve stayed up way too late working on my new website. Well, the content is new. The domain itself is actually my oldest active online presence, rjem.com.

I’ll be posting articles on the site that I’ve collected over the years. Most have to do with online business, niche marketing, AdSense, and the usual nonsense you find on the many article collections on the web.

I’m doing this mostly to see how well the content works with AdSense and possibly make a little dough. It’s the big experiment that I’ve been thinking about doing for sometime.

If you’ve come to this website before, you can see that it’s changed. It has gone through several changes in the past. I hope this is the beginning of the end for the constant changes.

I have tried for several years now to write my own code for my websites. I have not had much success. I don’t know if I have ADD or some other problem with my brain, but I just can’t seem to get the code finished.

So, I have decided to use pre-existing software. I’m starting here on my personal website first to see how it goes. I am going to be exploring the software that is out there to see if it can be adapted for use on my other websites.

This may mean more changes before I settle on the final software I will use. Please bear with me.

This is a big step for me. I am giving up the idea of having complete control over the code and software of my sites. But my goals are more important, so I’ve had to rethink my approach.

The idea is to make money from the web. I haven’t been able to do that very well since none of my sites work as they should (with the possible exception of the Landmark sites).

For those who have visited my websites, thank you. I ask for your patience as I convert to new software. I’ll need to work on the look and feel of the site, so it may not look the same from one day to the next. But now, I’ll be able to blog more often. Hopefully, it will be worth it for you.
